Medical items

Allowed as carry-on baggage

The following medical items are allowed as carry-on baggage.

Medications

We recommend that passengers keep their medications in their carry-on baggage for easy access during the journey.

Medical accessories

Medical equipment such as CPAP devices (used for sleep apnea), portable oxygen tanks, walkers, canes, and wheelchairs are permitted on board the train.

These items will not count towards the carry-on baggage allowance, meaning they can be brought in addition to the other baggage.

Compressed Oxygen Bottles

Passengers with respiratory issues may bring a portable oxygen concentrator or a compressed oxygen bottle on board. However, the use of these devices is subject to the following restrictions:

  • One (1) compressed oxygen bottle is allowed per passenger.
  • The maximum size of the bottle is 91 cm (36 inches) in length and 15 cm (6 inches) in diameter, with a maximum volume of 16,000 cm3 (1,000 in3).
  • The bottle must be secured in a cart designed to protect the regulator.
  • Important: Compressed oxygen bottles cannot be checked as baggage on VIA Rail trains and must be carried as part of your carry-on luggage.

Please note that medicine or medical items are not allowed as checked baggage.
